Overview of PLAB

 

PLAB is divided into two parts:

  1. PLAB 1: A written multiple-choice examination that tests your ability to apply knowledge to the care of patients. It is meant to reflect conditions and practices in the UK.
  2. PLAB 2: An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) consisting of 18 stations, which include acting patients and marks on your ability to perform clinical tasks.

How often can I take the PLAB exams?

You can attempt PLAB 1 as many times as you need. For PLAB 2, you are allowed a maximum of four attempts.

If you fail PLAB 1, you can re-book and take the test again on the next available date. If you fail PLAB 2, you can also re-sit it, but keep in mind the limit of four attempts.
